Zero hour contracts

Post by stigsyv1 » Wed Jan 07, 2015 10:05 am

Just been told that I me and 5 others will be made redundant and rehired if we still want to work there on a zero hours contract and a 70 pounds per week pay deduction. This will bring my wage down to just over the minimum wage for UK. Has anyone else had this done to them and how does this zero hours contract actually work .?

I major in HR and Employment Relations Stigsy, that to me sounds like they're trying to pay you less, release you when they want and not have to pay you severance for doing it. Sounds very dodgy and not like any enforceable contract of employment agreement I'm aware of. I'm sure it's slightly different laws to where you are but if you're in the EU the same kind of rights apply.

We have seen a legal representative and have been told that basicly we have been given notice and if we do decide not to take the new contract we are entitled to redundancy money I may decide to take that and enjoy some free time.

It depends on what you want to do, it doesn't seem right to forfeit redundancy pay for the sake of dodgy, less beneficial contract. It sounds like dirty tactics. It's a strange situation to be in stigsy, I hope it works out for you.

I have been looking on the web and quite a few small UK companies are using this zero hour bullshit to cut their wage bills down. Basically they are being cunts.

I'd take the contract and not go to work, since they said zero hours.
