Nobody else is going to do this, so I will. And I'm watching the ESPN pre-game studio show that's overlooking the Copacabana, and holy fuck is that water clean and sparkling. Having to work with that outside your window is just mean...

And while it's not as sexy as dismantling the World Champions, Columbia easily demolishing the reputed most defensive team in the tournament is rather impressive in it's own right

On a serious note, I'm not too interested as I think England have no chance and thus don't want to get emotionally invested.

Uruguay sure did get blitzed coming out of Half Time as Costa Rica put up 2 goals in 3 minutes and almost had 3 in less than 10

That Campbell lad is a beast. What an asset he will be for Arsenal in the future.
Uruguay are in big trouble now. They're the top seeds in the group, but now probably need wins against both England and Italy to qualify. Without Suárez, their attack looked pretty toothless.
I'm not sure whether the result is good or bad for England and Italy. How cool would it be to see Costa Rica qualify and dump out two of the big teams?

It's good for whoever comes out to win the match. A draw is fresh life to Uruguay so you'd think both teams will come gunning

True, but Uruguay will surely be going all out in the next game, so if England don't win tonight, they're in for a hell of a tussle in Thursday.

I stand corrected. I watch a lot of English football and I really didn't expect their style to mesh well with Italy's. It's an intriguing game, though, with two great goals. And England's physio getting injured during the celebration was spectacular.

I could not be happier to see them not dragging it into the muck of embellishment. Once England started using speed to open holes in Italy's defence, the urgency picked up about 30 notches, and the shenanigans fell away. If Italy played like this more often, I wouldn't hate them near as much.

I'm not a fan of the no-foul call on Gerrad in the box, but other than that it was a pretty clean, entertaining game.

Goob & I spent about 20 minutes arguing that referee's decision, while England went around failing to score. It was good times.
That was a much, much better game than I'd expected. They weren't diving all over the place, and that just didn't compute for me. That was the kind of European football I love, with precision passing and movement off the ball creating the possession and scoring opportunities. I'll take that over the dribbling styles of South America any day.
If Italy played like this every time, rather than just playing for fouls and penalties, I wouldn't hate them.

Lovely goal by Honda, to open the scoring for Japan. Got that shot off in a hurry. Too many times, you'll see one more touch, allowing the defence to close.

Perhaps one of the best World Cup photos so far...
