Edmonton is looking alright thus far in pre-season play. It'll be interesting to see how they do when the points really start mattering and everyone turns on game mode.

Things should get interesting once World Cup is over and everyone goes back to their respective teams. :D

Guess everyone wants to get sharp(er) since this is the last week of preseason. Shit's getting real starting next week.

According to the Penguins, CONSOL Energy Center is being renamed PPG Paints Arena. I'm not feeling the new name; it's almost bad as the Red Wings' Little Caesars Arena (anyone else think "Pizza! Pizza!" when they hear that name?).

Corporate named arenas are such a pet peeve of mine. They're both terrible names.

PPG Paints wouldn't be so horrible if they'd omitted the "Paints" and just went with PPG Arena.

That would work. In Detroit's case I think it's pretty lame to go from the awesomely named Joe Louis Arena to the Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings are going from an arena named for a heroic, barrier-breaking athlete to one named for a fast food pizza chain.

Connor McDavid made history today by, at age 19, becoming the youngest NHL team captain. It's going to be interesting to see how the season plays out. Just over a week away.
