Main Show

Four Man Match, Winner Earns a Shot At the Mid-Atlantic Championship Later Tonight
Angelo Mosca vs Jay Youngblood vs Johnny Weaver vs Vader

Mosca and Vader clear the ring in a hurry, before staring each other down. The two mountainous men go face to face, before Mosca is blindsided by Weaver and Youngblood. Vader Joins the mugging, and the three men manage to beat down the large veteran. After a huge effort, he is dumped from the ring, and Youngblood starts to target Vader, only for Weaver to roll him up for a nearfall. The three remaining men brawl, until Weaver gets flattened by a Vader corner splash. He cannot capitalize, as Youngblood traps him with a rollup for the win.

Jay Youngblood def Vader, Johnny Weaver & Angelo Mosca via Rolling Reverse on Vader (7:31)
Rating: B

Gene Okerlund is at ringside, as Jay Youngblood is celebrating. He welcomes Jay over, and asks if he has anything he’d like to say. Jay says that it’s been a rough year, and he’s got unfinished business with Paul Jones Army. He says that taking the title from The Great Kabuki will be sweet. Jay departs, and Gene introduces the United States Heavyweight Champion, Roddy Piper to ringside. Gene asks Piper about his title match tonight. Piper says he’s fired up and mad as hell. He says that he’s one to take on aaaaaaall comers, even on a week’s notice, but he’s had just about enough of Ric Flair’s neglect for everything but himself. Tonight, he defends his title, tomorrow, he defends MACW.
Rating: B

United States Heavyweight Championship Match
“Rowdy” Roddy Piper © vs Nikita Koloff

Roddy does come out fired up and firing on all cylinders, unfortunately, his opponent is just a brick wall of a man. Koloff weathers the first flurry without dropping to a knee. Roddy is undeterred, as he comes in again to try to press the big Russian, but Koloff gets his hands on Piper, and drops the champ with a powerful headbutt. Koloff grinds this match to a halt, as he starts standing on Piper’s shins and chest, wearing the champion down on the mat. Piper desperately tries to get back into this match, but he can’t gain any traction. Things look bleak for our champion, as Koloff signals for the Russian Sickle. Piper manages to keep his wits enough to avoid the dangerous clothesline, and slaps on the Sleeperhold as Koloff runs by. Piper wrenches the hold with all of his might, as Koloff staggers around. Koloff tries to fight out, but his attempts get weaker and weaker, until finally, he passes out cold.

Roddy Piper def Nikita Koloff via Sleeperhold (7:39)
Rating:B+

NWA World Tag Team Championship Match
“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan & Bugsy McGraw (c’s) vs The Brisco Brothers (Jack and Jerry Brisco)

The four men stand in the ring as the bell rings, and exchange quick handshakes, before breaking cleanly to their corners. The match starts pleasantly enough, with clean breaks, and following the rules, but the stakes get raised when Duggan holds onto headlock a little longer than Jack Brisco would like near the ropes. From there, the gloves are off as the momentum swings wildly back and forth as the match goes on. The Briscos look to have this locked up, as Jerry sets up for the Figure Four Leg Lock, when Paul Jones Army comes down to ringside. Jones starts jawing at the ref and Duggan on the apron. With everyone distracted, The Assassin slips around, and pulls Jack Brisco off the apron, and cheapshots Jerry, before returning to Jones’ side. The Army backs off, as McGraw makes the tag. From there, Duggan sees the downed Jerry Brisco, and hits him with the Old Glory Knee Drop, as the ref counts to 3.

Jim Duggan & Bugsy McGraw def The Briscos (Jerry and Jack) via Old Glory Knee Drop on Jerry (12:23)
Rating: B+

After the match, Jack Brisco comes to, and enters the ring, and tells Jim Duggan what happened. Duggan helps up Jerry, and the quartet stares down the Army, who is backpedaling up the aisle, a content look on their faces.
Rating: B

The Army isn’t gone long, as they make their way back down to the ring for their next match. Gene Okerlund flags them over, and asks Paul Jones why he was so disrespectful to the NWA World Tag Team Champions and their challengers tonight. Jones replies that respect is a two way street, and until he and his boys get the respect and honor they’ve earned and deserve, he’s declaring MACW an active war zone.
Rating: B

Mid-Atlantic Championship
Jay Youngblood vs The Great Kabuki © w/Paul Jones Army

And a warzone this match is. Youngblood tries to keep his eyes on the other three members of the Army, as they patrol at ringside. Youngblood struggles most of the match as The Assassins and Young Muta keep him from gaining any real traction. They interfere one time too many, and the ref has had enough, and ejects the Army from ringside. As Paul Jones makes a scene, Kabuki takes this moment to low blow Youngblood, as the ref is dealing with the Army. Kabuki then unloads the Green Mist on the doubled over Youngblood. Content, Paul Jones stops protesting and walks up the aisle, as the ref counts the pinfall.

The Great Kabuki def Jay Youngblood via Green Mist following a low blow(10:39)
Rating: B-

As the Hired Guns make their way to the ring, we get a popup promo from the quartet. Paul E says that for some reason, people are treating the Hired Guns like the underdogs in this match tonight. Paul says he vividly remembers Sid Vicious and Kevin Nash ripping Jimmy Valiant’s knee to shreds, and that a certain “Dragon” was left lying motionless in the back of a limousine. When the Guns win tonight, you won’t be witnessing an upset, but something that was a foregone conclusion.
As Steamboat and Valiant make their entrance, we see another popup promo. Ricky says that the Guns have been running roughshod for months, and tonight, they will pay for their crimes. Valiant says that his soul is shakin’ and stirrin’. He feels it deep inside of him, feels that tonight is the night that those Hired Guns get what’s coming to them. Feels that tonight, there will be no sneak attacks. Feels that tonight, he gets one step closer to paying back Greg Valentine.
Rating: A

Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat & Jimmy Valiants vs The Hired Guns (Kevin Nash & Sid Vicious) w/Paul E & Vader

The Guns try to use their size to their advantage early, but superior speed of Steamboat keeps them off balance. The Guns can’t get anything going for them, as Steamboat and Valiant are too focused in their efforts tonight. Vader and Paul E try to get involved, but their usual tricks are not working tonight. The Guns look lost out here tonight, as they are utterly steamrolled. Sid and Nash are dropped by a simultaneous Flying Body Press and Boogie Woogie Elbow Drop.

Ricky Steamboat & Jimmy Valiant def The Hired Guns (Kevin Nash & Sid Vicious) via Flying Body Press on Nash (11:33)
Rating: B+

Vader rushes the ring, trying to sneak attack Valiant and Steamboat, but Valiant sidesteps him, and Steamboat pulls down the ropes, sending the big man crashing to the outside. Paul E tries to back away, but he’s soon surrounded by Steamboat and Valiant. Paul begins to plead for his life, now that his mercenaries are down for the count, but Valiant and Steamboat are having none of it. Steamboat tosses Paul into the ring. Paul tries to get up, begging once again, until Valiant grabs him by the collar, and drops him with a right hand. Valiant does a little shimmy, before dropping a standing elbow drop onto Paul. The two then celebrate for the crowd, as the Guns lay battered and broken in the ring.
Rating: A

NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Ric Flair is standing in the backstage interview area, and he is absolutely fuming. He says how DARE those scrawny eggheads question his authority over MACW. It’s business 101, you protect your biggest asset, and there is NO asset greater in the ENTIRE world, than the Nature Boy, Ric Flair. Those boys better remember who has the real power here, Flair says, as he claims he could walk out right now, and take the Championship with him. As a show of good faith, he says he’ll go through with this match tonight, to prove to MACW Officials that they should be doing everything in their power, in the state’s power, hell, in their wives, daughters, mothers, sister’s and cousin’s power, to make sure Ric Flair is the happiest sonofagun in the entire world of professional wrestling.
Rating: B+

NWA World Heavyweight Championship
Wahoo McDaniel vs “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair ©

The bell rings, and Flair immediately ducks out of the ring, and get’s rightly booed for it. He holds his arms out, and yells “See? They need me”. As he is riling up the crowd, Wahoo storms to the outside, grabs Flair by the scruff of his neck, and tosses him back into the ring. Wahoo puts the boots to Flair, and maintains control for some time, until Flair is able to slip out of a headlock, and out of the ring. He takes a breather on the outside, as Wahoo gives chase, but Flair cuts him off, sending him into the barricade. Flair with a series of chops, before he returns Wahoo to the ring, firmly in control. After working over the legs, Flair tries to add insult to injury, as he goes to apply the Indian Death Lock to Wahoo. When Wahoo realizes what’s happening, he fired up, insulted that Flair would even THINK of doing that to him, and he powers out of the hold before it gets applied. Wahoo is fired up, and starts tossing overhand chops to Flair’s head. After a body slam, Wahoo is amped, and tells Flair it’s over. Flair sits up, and scurries back into a corner, pleading with Wahoo, but the large Indian is having none of it. When Wahoo approaches to pick up Flair out of the corner, Flair thumbs the eyes of Wahoo, and rolls him up, using the turnbuckle for leverage. The ref’s vision is blocked, and he can’t see the illegal pin, as he counts the three.

Ric Flair def Wahoo McDaniel via Rollup with the tights (31:32)
Rating: A*

Flair snatches his title from the ringside area, and holds it aloft, as he talks trash to the audience, and says that he is the greatest to ever live. All hail the king, baby.

DAMMIT FLAIR

Really fun show. Flowed really well, keeping the momentum going throughout.

Can't wait for Piper to get Rowdy on the Nature Boy.

Well, the card was thrown together less than a week ago, game time, so the predictable outcomes were probably the right ones.

WOW! Good thing Piper and later Ricky Steamboat and Jimmy Valiant got the win there. That was a card where only a few Nice Things were on hand. Even Youngblood's win early on was bittersweet in hindsight, as he was pinned by Kabuki just a short time later. Yep, MACW is not a show for anyone looking to see people go home happy.

A TV card that doesn't have squashes? I'm not sure I can handle this. Also, this is eliminating a fair number of would-be allies for Hogan. Can our intrepid hero find team mates in time?

I consider an absence of the North American champion and Mr. Steamboat to be heartening for Mr. Hogan's chances.

And Jimmy Garvin vs. Chris Adams?

That's gonna be a WCCW style RASSLIN' match.

Perhaps Hennig won't be making an appearance then, he's not very over in that neck of the woods. Steamboat though...

Although on second thought, I did get Hennig over considerably thanks to the Mid-South TV show.
