Question about using codec packs?

I have been using mp4 codec and Little jimmy first gave me an old version of it by k-lite still works :)
and now it ask me to update it but I only get the notice once and a while but is it worth updating it?
will it not like make my internet boots off slowly after watching 3 half hour wrestling matches 1 night this happen after when there
were so much users on the numbers game thread after watching them a couple of weeks ago
when I was on the game And i'm using wi-fi and I also own a lap top. But I havnt been kicked off the net since and I have my mp4 videos on
a 32gb usb stick.

and I also dont want a virus either :)

Most tech sites I've seen recommend against using codec packs. I think they are more a remnant of the old days when Windows XP did not support many video formats.
Windows natively supports MP4 since Windows 7, so you should not really even need a codec pack.

Hmm, I may be mistaken, I've seen some places say Windows DOES NOT support MP4.
For some reason, it works on my Windows 7 computer, and i never installed any sort of codec pack.
This requires more research. . .
