Video Game Music
Re: Video Game Music
That is so awesome, I'd love to meet Uematsu. I wouldn't know what to say to the man, his music has honestly had as big an impact on my life as any rock band I like.

Apparently he asked my friend where he got it, laughing, and (jokingly) tucked it inside his jacket.

That is so cool.

Just want to thank you again, Jama, I've been hooked on the Distant World albums as of late.

No problem. Glad you enjoy it, haha. Memoro De Stona/Distant Worlds is a favorite of mine. The intro from Final Fantasy XI starts off, then kicks into a beautiful vocals. Ronfaure is just nostalgia on a bun for me, since I played a bunch of XI as well.
As for video game music, some days I get lost in playlists on Youtube. Personal favorites of mine are the OCRemix playlist (Channel playlist), Some "Top 100 RPG songs" playlists, and occasionally the Persona 3 FES soundtrack playlist.
There are some pretty damn good remixes on the OCRemix channel though.

The Final Fantasy I,II & III medley got me, I popped when they ended it with one of my absolute favourite tracks from the much underrated FF II: the Rebels theme.

WHOA! Check this shit out all you retro gamers of the 90's:
The Goldeneye 007 Soundtrack before it was compressed onto the N64. This sounds incredible AND takes me back.

I figured of anyone on here, you'd appreciate it the most. It's both really awesome to hear the music as it was meant to be and it really demonstrates the limited audio/memory capabilities of the Nintendo 64 and see how they made it work anyway.

Nucks, have you heard of a webshow called "Extra Credits"? They tackle gaming related topics, like Propaganda Games, Game Addiction, Balance and Perfect Imbalance, and Game Music.
The Game Music video is actually really cool. They describe a little of the music theory as to why 8 and 16-bit games tended to have more memorable music, compared to modern games.

Re: Video Game Music
So with the Humble Indie Bundles, you usually get soundtracks for the games included. I bought this bundle despite having a few of the games in it, because I wanted the soundtracks.
Monaco: What's Yours is Mine - 2D/8bit top down heist game, but the soundtrack is heavily inspired by silent movies, so it's a lot of heavy piano, sounds really cool.
Guacamelee is a Luchadore based metroidvania, thus, all the music has a nice salsa flair. I'm digging these so far as I listen to them. The boss theme for Guacamelee is particularly enjoyable.

Putting this link here for my own memory, but feel free to make use of it yourself. It's the Suiko V soundtrack in downloadable form, crisp clear MP3 and all. Make sure to download from the Lambda server, the main one doesn't work: http://bluelaguna.net/music/suikoden-v-5-ost/mp3s.php

OCRemix: I forget about you for a time, but when I remember you exist, I get lost in all the bitchin' Video Game Music Remixes.

Re: Video Game Music
This has to be one of my most favourite Overworld themes from an RPG:

Music from the beta of the upcoming WoW expansion
"My favourite spot is the one where I would pick him up for an aeroplane spin and rotate as many times as possible. He’d be so dizzy that he would try to pin the referee, and I’d count to three and he’d think that he won - Daniel Bryan
Re: Video Game Music
So, I've had this little NES jingle that comes to mind every now and then and I couldn't figure out what game it was from, until now:
Bubble Bobble. Such a happy little tune.
