List 'em: Your Top Ten PlayStation Games

Post by El Canuck » Sun Mar 10, 2013 12:26 pm

The mother of all RPG consoles and the master of the 32 Bit's: The Sony PlayStation.

10. Wild Arms
9. Xenogears
8. Resident Evil 2
7. Parasite Eve
6. Tales of Destiny
5. Final Fantasy V (I'm including it, because this was its first appearance outside Japan)
4. Suikoden I
3. Final Fantasy IX
2. Star Ocean: The Second Story
1. Final Fantasy VII

No doubt Suikoden II will dominate to the top of this list once I play it, but until then, the list will remain as is.

No order, because sometimes that's just too hard...

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy Tactics
Twisted Metal 2
NFL Blitz
Parasite Eve
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Crash Bandicoot
Valkyrie Profile
Digimon World 3

I have Breath of Fire IV sitting on my PS3 harddrive from the PSN store... I need to actually get around to playing that...

I've beaten VIII twice, IX once. I started a second playthrough of IX, with the intent of not rushing through, so I can witness things better. First time I kinda just raced through it, and it left me feeling unimpressed, especially at the end.

Also, I hate Tetra Master.

Love Triple Triad.

That also accounts for why VIII is higher than IX.

If FFXI shipped with Triple Triad to play online instead of Tetra Master, I probably would've spent my money on that instead of the MMO portion. Hell, I'd love to see it done for Facebook or Mobile. Each player setting their own favorite rules, and then having a ruleset chosen at random at the start? Sign me up.

Ok, I'll agree on Triple Triad over Tetra Master. I don't think a mini-game would sway my favor of one game over another. Especially when one is FFVIII, a game that clearly had all its eggs piled in the graphics basket and none in the important ones like Gameplay or story.

The thing I liked about Metal Gear Solid was that it was the definite first entry into the stealth action genre. The genre responsible for all the other Metal Gear games, Assassins Creed, Splinter Cell and so on. It's one of my favorite genres, and I recall playing MGS in the late 90's and being awed that AI could be so precise.

Assassin's Creed does not require stealth, lol.

AC1 required stealth, becuase guards could just fuck you up, as the games went on, the series made you a more capable fighter, so you could defend yourself.

They require stealth if you don't just want to cut your way through everything, which can take a lot longer than just free running and guard dodging. Which is stealth. There are also a lot of missions across all the console versions that require not harassing the men-at-arms in any way, to complete these missions you use: STEALTH.

Stealth isn't just hiding and tiptoeing, it's the practice of being an artful dodger.

Now I want to try Thief to see how that did Stealth... Heard good things, just never have played.

Anyways, as for MGS, myself, I played about halfway through the game and quit. I finished disk 1, then stopped to play Castlevania. I've never gone back to it since. There's something about it that I can't quite put my finger on that prevented me from wanting to play it again.

Also, Parasite Eve kicks ass and I need to get PE2.

Parasite Eve kicks major ass. I'd love to play it again, it and its sequel are hard to come by though. The latter being expensive, not that I can say much, considering I bought Suiko 2 for $175.

I loaned my copy of PE (with the guidebook so you could do the Chrysler Building in an hour per 10 floors, instead of taking FOREVER) like three years ago, as we have a system of game sharing so we both usually have something to play. I'm still a bit annoyed that he hasn't finished it yet.

The Chrysler Building is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever done, in RPG's. So totally worth it

I might break down and pick the games up on PSN when I hit a bored patch with my current games. I think both 1 and 2 are on there.

Sweet, Jama. Suikoden II is totally going to dominate that list when I finish it. Totally worth $175.
