Nice, it's a favourite of mine to sing as well.

Speaking of songs I really enjoy singing:

I need an easy friend
I do with an ear to lend
I don't think you fit this shoe
I do won't you have a clue

I'll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can't see you every night
Free

I do

I'm standing in your line
I do hope you have the time
I do pick a number too
I do keep a date with you

I'll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can't see you every night
Free

I need an easy friend
I do with an ear to lend
I do think you fit this shoe
I do won't you have a clue

I'll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can't see you every night
No, I can't see you every night
Free

I do

Speaking of 90's Grunge/Alternative acts that are such a staple in my listening:

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel
Believe, believe in me, believe
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight

From my third favourite Led Zeppelin album:

Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do...

Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

The last hit of one of rock music's greatest bands, a smooth, poetic piece that entered the Hot 100 on the same day Jim Morrison rode the storm to his final rest.

Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out on loan
Riders on the storm

There's a killer on the road
His brain is squirmin' like a toad
Take a long holiday
Let your children play
If you give this man a ride
Sweet memory will die
Killer on the road, yeah

Girl, you gotta love your man
Girl, you gotta love your man
Take him by the hand
Make him understand
The world on you depends
Our life will never end
Gotta love your man, yeah

From my favourite Neil Young album:

Daddy's rifle in my hand
felt reassurin'
He told me,
Red means run, son,
numbers add up to nothin'
But when the first shot
hit the docks I saw it comin'
Raised my rifle to my eye
Never stopped to wonder why.
Then I saw black,
And my face splashed in the sky.

Shelter me from the powder
and the finger
Cover me with the thought
that pulled the trigger
Think of me
as one you'd never figured
Would fade away so young
With so much left undone
Remember me to my love,
I know I'll miss her.

Here's a song I love playing and even more so singing:

Can you help me remember how to smile?
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded?
Life's mystery seems so faded

I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just a-drownin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runaway train

And everything seems cut and dried
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it

Runaway train, never going back
Wrong way on a one-way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there

Take a look at me now
There's just an empty space
There's nothing left here to remind me
Just the memory of your face

So take a look at me now
There's just an empty space
And you coming back to me
Is against all odds
But it's a chance I've gotta take

Take a look at me now

Couldn't recall that one and had to YouTube it. Now I remember it, not my favourite by Collins, but not a bad track either.

A track that's been finding its way into my shuffled iTunes frequently:

Sitting alone in the cold of the night
You’re trying to find what you need to survive
You're so afraid
You can’t go on
Left in the silence that tears at your heart
It only reminds you how broken you are
You lost your way
But hope is not gone

Cause the sun always sets
The moon always falls
It feels like the end
Just pay no mind at all
And keep rolling
Rolling
Life must go on

Love this song and its beautiful lyrics.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

How about this one?

In the clearing stands a boxer,
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of ev'ry glove that laid him down
And cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame,
"I am leaving, I am leaving."
But the fighter still remains

Easily one of my favourite Neil Young songs, it's in my top five.

I caught you knockin'
at my cellar door
I love you, baby,
can I have some more
Ooh, ooh, the damage done.

I hit the city and
I lost my band
I watched the needle
take another man
Gone, gone, the damage done.

I sing the song
because I love the man
I know that some
of you don't understand
Milk-blood
to keep from running out.

I've seen the needle
and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie's
like a settin' sun.

Some City & Colour that's been in my head all day:

Last night I dreamt that they dropped a bomb
Oh the seas ran dry and the winds had calmed
The skyscrapers fell, and crumbled to dust,
And their skeletons of steel were covered in rust

And everything I loved and feared had all at once disappeared

Colours were drained straight from the sky
And nothing living had survived
Mountains were merely removed from the earth
And silver and gold had lost all its worth

Another song wedged firmly in my head today:

And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time

Calling out father oh
Prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on
The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky

Now I see fire
Inside the mountain
I see fire
Burning the trees
And I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire
Blood in the breeze
And I hope that you remember me

From easily my favourite album by this band:

All the times
That I felt like this won't end
It's for you
And I taste
What I could never have
It was from you
All the times
That I've cried
My intentions
Full of pride
But I waste
More time than anyone

But I'm on the outside
And I'm looking in
I can see through you
See your true colors
'Cause inside you're ugly
You're ugly like me
I can see through you
See to the real you

Outside

From their new incredible album:

It’s been years since anyone
Could be a friend
It’s the fear that kills the feeling
In the end
Can we face it?
Can we shape it?
Can we really die?
If rain is what you want
All you have to do is close your eyes
Just close your eyes

I have watched your resurrection
Start to crawl
Is there any chance in Hell?
Any chance at all?
Do we need it?
Do we see it?
Is it really there?
If rain is what you want
Then take your seats
Enjoy the fall
Enjoy the fall

The muse turned me on to this song, been in my head all day:

All those arrows you threw, you threw them away
You kept falling in love, then one day
When you fell, you fell towards me
When you crashed in the clouds, you found me

Oh, please don’t go
I want you so
I can’t let go
For I lose control

This is a regular on my iTunes, great Irish band and a song that sums up some of my feelings right now:

I wish I was a fisherman
Tumblin' on the seas
Far away from dry land
And its bitter memories
Casting out my sweet line
With abandonment and love
No ceiling bearin' down on me
Save the starry sky above
With light in my head
You in my arms

Tomorrow I will be loosened
From bonds that hold me fast
That the chains all hung around me
Will fall away at last
And on that fine and fateful day
I will take thee in my hands
I will ride on the train
I will be the fisherman
With light in my head
You in my arms

That's a really beautiful song. I was always only familiar with a couple of songs by The Waterboys, but I've really grown to like them lately. I've been listening to their albums a lot during my commutes home from work. The music in Fisherman's Blues is glorious. Their lyrics are generally excellent across the board, too. I'm a huge fan of Glastonbury Song. The whole song is worth quoting, it's so lyrically excellent. I'm not much of a spiritual guy, but there's something so universally uplifting about it.

And while I'd love to be able to claim the group as Irish, some of the members are British. The lead singer and songwriter, Mike Scott, is Scottish, as you can tell from his strong accent which comes through quite clearly in his singing, particularly during live performances. Though he does currently reside in Ireland.

I dreamed myself from the sultry plains
To the old green square back in old Maybole
Rode the wind up to Stornaway
Paused at the peak, pacified my soul
Caught the bus at the fairy fort
Made it to the mansion on the Boyne
See I come around to the ancient ways
I took a tip from the Buddha boy

I just found God
I just found God
I just found God where he always was

We came down from the hill of dreams
Bernadette, mother earth and you and me
Through Carraroe, down the wildwood side
Blinding out eyes in the shallow seas
Drank fire with the King of the Blues,
Plugged in to the medicine way
Took a long last look at Crazy Horse
Push now for a golden age

I just found God
I just found God
I just found God where he always was

I found myself on the roof of the world
just waiting for to get my wings
Strange angel in the changing light
Said "Brother, you forgot something!"
My heart beat from the inside out
So lucky just to be alive!
Can you tell what I'm talking about?
Any day now the Sun's gonna rise!

I just found God
I just found God
I just found God where he always was

There is a green hill far away
I'm going back there one fine day
