Colin Trevorrow is out as director of Episode IX! Thank God for that. It was a cause of much worry amongst the fans and industry members alike. We now have reason to hope Episode VIII won't be the last great Star Wars movie. This is incredible.

J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Unsurprised that they went with this choice. He was considered for IX during post-production on VII but understandably turned it down. JJ still sounded lukewarm about it in 2015 just having completed VII so it's easy to see why he came back around.

I have no doubt it now won't be released until Christmas 2019 even if they're explicitly not saying that yet.

Mark Hamill accidentally posted the release date of the next The Last Jedi teaser trailer to Twitter (which he quickly removed). Apparently it is only going to be an extended version of what we have already seen though. The accidental tweet could be intentional for hype, who knows. Not officially confirmed anywhere.

October 9th is the apparent date.

Sounds too plausible to be a lie, I think he revealed it but got in trouble because he wasn't supposed to.
