That he's now doing all his shenanigans as a beloved babyface is sensational. There's so much energy to his matches. Well, except the Naito match, where he worked heel and nobody bought it.

I was sad for Goto. Have really grown to like him.

Has anyone here seen Day 5 yet? I read that it was rated better than Day 4 from Voices of Wrestling. Surely no way?

I'll be watching it today. I saw chatter to that same effect in my puroresu circles.

I have to cut it up into halves. First half after work, second half after jiujitsu or before work tomorrow.

So started Day 5, started well but Davey Hart Smith gonna Davey Hart Smith. Working over the wrong Kojima arm despite feuding with him for two years.

So Archer beats Tenzan and Smith beats Kojima. THIS FEUD MUST CONTINUE.

And the most notable thing so far. Shelton X Benjamin 4-0 what the actual fuck is going on here?

So, from what I'm hearing, is AJ Styles doing the best work of his career in New Japan?

Finishing up Day 5 with Okada/Naito. :)

I'd say it's just below Day 4 at this point. Maybe this is the match that puts it all together.

So I just watched a match in Korakuen Hall where the Japanese crowd was chanting hard for AJ Styles and Minoru Suzuki

Breakdown of the Block Standings after Day 7
Spoiler: show
A Block

I'd prognosticate that going into the last day, Kojima is going to lead the block with 12 points, Tanahashi and Nakamura at 11, and Shibata, Shelton Benjamin, and Yuji Nagata at 10 (and maybe Fale at 10?), with the last five (six?) chasing victories on the final day to pass Cozy.

B Block

I'd wager that anyone that can only make a maximum of 12 points is already out of the running to win the block so cross out Goto, Tenzan, Yano, Yujiro and Anderson. That leaves:

Makabe - Max 14
Naito - Max 14
Okada - Max 16
Suzuki - Max 14
Archer - Max 14
Styles - Max 16

I would expect a logjam at 12 or 14 with the block winner holding multiple tiebreakers, which would give Naito an early advantage, or a Suzuki/Okada decision match to get to 14 alone

Playing a little catch-up, and made it to intermission on Day 5. Both TenCozy/KES matches came together quite well, with the increasingly defined characters of Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith Jr shining through. Archer using breaks in his offence to just scream at anyone nearby is the perfect way to engage as the American Psycho, and Smith is every day looking more and more like he would fit right in with a biker gang. Anderson/Yano was good times, with Anderson getting so lost in mocking Yano that it levelled the playing field being a great way to work the match to the benefit of everybody. Gallows/Ishii did nothing for me, off the top, as they didn't do anything with the size dynamic they hinted at to build a structure. Finally, with all the Suzukigun/Bullet Club warfare throughout the tournament, we got our first taste of Minoru Suzuki playing the babyface, and just like last year against Anderson, I wasn't feeling it. The antics work, but when it gets down to the meat of Suzuki's offence, it just doesn't carry over well from heel control and douchebaggery.

Overall, a pretty satisfying first half of the show. Will be checking out the second half in a little while. If all goes as planned, I should at least make a start on Day 6 before the day is up.

I'm still two shows behind with the back to back. Going to get up to intermission hopefully by the time I have jiujitsu today.
