List 'em: Your Top Ten SNES Games

Post by El Canuck » Sun Mar 10, 2013 12:01 pm

Same premise as the NES thread, moving ahead to the 16 bit era.

10. Super Metroid
9. Super Mario Kart
8. Final Fantasy IV
7. Breath of Fire II
6. Donkey Kong Country II
5. Breath of Fire I
4. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
3. Super Mario World
2. Chrono Trigger
1. Final Fantasy VI

A lot more RPG's. This and the 32 bit era were the zenith of RPG gaming, and I loved every minute of it. Honorable mentions to DKC I and III, Harvest Moon and Super Street Fighter II: Turbo.

Nudge Metroid off the list and replace it with Super Mario RPG. I can't believe I forgot that game, one of my absolute favorites. It has to be the most fun, happy RPG I've ever played. You can't not smile when you play it, you just can't.

I'm not good at ranking favorites, but I'll give this a go.

10. Mega Man 7
9. Super Mario World
8. Super Metroid
7. Mortal Kombat II
6. Super Mario RPG
5. Zombie Ate My Neighbors
4. Super Mario Kart
3. Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (legimately only Zelda game I've been invested in)
2. Super Mario All-Stars (graphically enhanced favorites with Lost Levels, a personal favorite)
1. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (just a great work of art by Nintendo. I had a lot more fun with this one than Mario

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is such a good game. It came twenty years too soon, in my opinion. With the Zombie craze going on now, that would be a best seller. It did sell well on the Virtual Console on the Wii.

Shadowrun is one I've never gotten to play. Heard great things about it though. Definitely something I'd pick up if I came across it. No Chrono Trigger, Jama?

My main experience with Chrono Trigger came on the PSOne. That and most of these decisions were made on the combination of merit, and the amount of time I've spent playing them. I could've added a bunch of stuff, like FFIV, Uniracers, Doom, or even better versions of games already up there (Super Mario All Starts + World, Tecmo 3, etc), but I didn't spend a lot of time with those games.

Speaking of Shadowrun, I'm so glad I backed the Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter. DRM free copy of the game, tactical RPG that's supposed to be close to the roots of the tabletop game. Gonna be awesome.

It had very stiff competition, for me. This, and the Playstation are my two favorite RPG consoles. That being my favorite genre, it dominated my top ten. Turtles would of made top twenty for sure, I spent SO many hours playing and beating that game. It was my favorite beat-em-up on the console, and SNES had some good arcade ports of that genre, like Final Fight 1, 2 and 3; Pirates of Dark Water; Rival Turf; Battletoads/Double Dragon. It was a good time to be a gamer.

AH! Sunset Riders, another great one. I preferred Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for my Mortal Kombat fix on the SNES.

The SNES version of Turtles in Time was very limited.
Four player co cop is how that game meant to be played,
imo.

Well, obviously it wasn't going to be identical to the arcade port. But for a home version, it was fantastic.
